This week aims to celebrate how positive the process of aging can truly be, and encourage those over the age of 55 to take advantage of all that life has to offer.

Positive Ageing Week 2023 will carry on the theme of Challenging Ageism – Reframing How Resilience underscores the incredible adaptability and strength that older individuals display in the face of life’s challenges, particularly in a world that is rapidly evolving. Whether it’s technological advancements, social changes, or health-related issues, the capacity of our older generation is a testament to their invaluable wisdom and experience.

Their resilience is not just an inspiration but a resource that enriches our communities in immeasurable ways so in celebration Huntstown Community Centre will be hosting a Morning event at 11am until 1pm here in the Centre.

Men’s Exercise Class

Suitable for all men over 50+ this programme will initially run for six weeks on a Wednesday morning, at the moment we are inviting expressions of interest to gauge the demand, please leave your name and mobile number at Huntstown Community Centre Reception.

This programme with Huntstown Community Centre will offer an avenue for men to learn about the importance of exercise and to practice physical activity with the guidance of a professional trainer. Sessions will be adapted to suit the needs of participants, via a safe and non-judgemental environment

Ageing brings an increase in sedentary lifestyles, reduced mobility, and increase in falls as well as chronic and age-related diseases. One of the simplest ways to counteract the adverse effects of ageing is exercise, which will also increase participants’ physical, social and mental wellbeing.

These classes will work on strengthening major muscles. The major muscles include legs, hips, back, abdomen, chest, shoulders and arms. Through strengthening exercises you can build and maintain strong bones, regulate blood sugar and blood pressure, and maintain a healthy weight.

Good posture keeps your body functioning in the correct way. With good postures comes well-balanced muscles and can help you prevent injuries. For adults to have good posture it can help with chronic back pain and other aches and pains. Arthritis and similar conditions can deter people from exercising. However, even with a chronic condition exercise can help with relieving pain.

Interested ?  Just leave your Name and Mobile Number at Reception

24th November – Neighbourhood Event enquires to bernie@huntstowncc.org

Huntstown Community Centre intends holding a Neighbourhood Evening event in November 24th.  As part of this we would like if all Groups/Clubs who use the centre could have their Group/Club represented by submitting A A1 Board (which the Centre will supply) – upon which each group will describe who they are, what they do etc. and put photos etc. on it  These boards will then be displayed on the walls of the Hall at this Neighbourhood event to let everyone see what happens in the Centre, for those Groups (again who wish)…there will be space/table available to hold objects…crafts, sewing items, paintings, display of knot tying, jewellery making, etc. If your Group/Club wish to perform a dance, music or some form of entertainment please let us know so we can add to the schedule for the evening.

This event is scheduled for November so plenty of time to get organised !

Any questions please let us know or email bernie@huntstowncc.org / text 0830114295
